Students improve at different rates, so some will work above, at, or below the targets. Yeti Keyboarding uses gamified teaching techniques to introduce students to traditional keyboarding instruction, where typists use two hands and ten fingers.

The list below shows some of the main markers used in the students’ progress. As students are promoted through the different grades, appropriate challenges are provided. Yeti Keyboarding stresses accuracy above all else, but the higher the grade level, the more demanding the texts become and require higher Words Per Minute (WPM) to succeed.

Keyboarding Skills Checklist:

  • Mouse Work

  • Posture

  • Show proper ergonomics when typingor preparing to type

  • Identify the right and left halves ofthe keyboard

  • Locate the home row

  • Demonstrate correct home rowfingers positioning

  • Use fingers on right and left hands topress keys

  • Identify keys pressed correctly withthe right and left hands

Keyboarding Acquisition Skills:

  • Home Row Keys

  • Top Row Keys

  • Bottom Row

  • Sentence and Punctuation

  • Numbers and Symbols

  • Practice to Build Speed

  • Maintain grade-level goals

For students in Grades K-2, Yeti Keyboarding models proper finger placement in their keyboarding lessons. Our primary focus is to familiarize the youngsters with the keyboard by helping them understand:

● the keys never move, ● each hand has a role to play and ● use more than one finger on each hand when typing.

Without students knowing, their body registers how to type specific keys. But there is no room for being overly critical. Instead, we insist that they at least try using both hands and at least two fingers of each hand to type the keys. The proper use of all fingers will be stressed starting in third grade.

Happy typing!

Mr. Carlos 🙂
