The goal of Yeti Keyboarding is to help students learn to type efficiently, at appropriate words per minute (WPM) with high accuracy. Students will be prepared and equipped with essential skills needed for academic success and future employment by meeting these goals.

Proficiency in keyboarding reduces mistakes, enhances productivity, makes digital communication more effortless, and enables quick adaptation to technological tools. All of these attributes ultimately prepare students for a competitive, fast-paced world.

If we think of the here and now, we want students to experience success now. When students who know the subject matter content and are required to take digital assessments, those who know how to type get better results than those who do not. Those students better use the time given because they are not hunting and pecking to find the keys; instead, they’re typing effortlessly. Their focus is on content rather than mechanics.

Yeti Keyboarding works to give students this ease. When they achieve the grade-level goals, they are well on their way to being prepared to communicate their thoughts digitally. We understand that students have varying skills and needs, so we provide flexible goals.

Below are the recommended default grade-level targets:

Grade Level Typing Goals

Kindergarten = 3 WPM at 70% accuracy Grade 1 = 5 WPM at 80% accuracy Grade 2 = 10 WPM at 85% accuracy Grade 3 = 15 WPM at 85% accuracy Grade 4 = 20 WPM at 85% accuracy Grade 5 = 25 WPM at 85% accuracy

Sometimes students fly through or need help meeting these goals, so we make adjustments.

We increase or lower the WPM required but not the accuracy.

Increasing accuracy is more important, because when students learn to type the correct key the first time without looking down at the keyboard, their fluency, automaticity, and WPM will increase.

Happy typing!

Mr. Carlos 🙂
